Loud cans
What's the point?
Is there some way in which sticking a loud can on an SV650 is any different to a 17 year old sticking a baked-bean can exhaust on his Citroen Saxo?

Re: Loud cans
what do you mean what's the point lol, makes your bike sound mean with a nice grunt .
17 year olds sticking loud cans on just makes the car sound crap and makes you want to hit them with a banana. i wouldn't mind if they was driving Subaru but all the little 1.2 boy racers just make them self look plain silly and when they drive past, you laff and think what a idiot . when a bike goes past me with decent can on i think wow that sounded ace .

Re: Loud cans
Suzy has a deep throbbing throaty growl......and I love it(YC hates it cause its louder than his now, ner ner, ner ner!!). She has BIG road presence.
I've always said to those that have asked why Suzy is so loud, my reply is..if you can't see a bright yellow bike, you'll sure as damn hear her coming first. Dave has a quiet burble that suddenly leaps out into a huge roar that makes other road users realise I'm there, when I pull on the beans. The SVs need noise, its simplez. However i'm getting old and require earplugs, cause my old ears find loud cans hard to put up with..still wouldn't change them though.

Re: Loud cans
Feeling a little sheepish now but I like the sound mine makes, I had pondered the chavvy side of it but decided to anyway. It does have an effect on people pulling out in front of me, not that its a safety thing to be relied on, but as tesco say, every little helps.
The thing with doing it to an SV is it CAN sound so much better without the stock muffler. rather than just making it louder it adjusts the tone etc. Some people like the V-Twin sound aswell as the power characteristics. It may be a phase I'll grow out of, but had to do it at least once

Re: Loud cans
Personal preference, I've been knocked with standard cans on before; the bike was near silent. My SV's have always had aftermarket cans on and traffic seems to part like the red sea(?that was possibly an incorrect biblical reference) . No one checks their mirrors and this guy didn't have a chance of hearing me so IMO I was more vulnerable than I could have been. Feel better about having a can on.
Like to hear what my engine's doing over the windnoise too.

Re: Loud cans
I may add to Daves post, that an SV with a good can, makes filtering so much easier, cars move out of your way, just a quick bark of bwaar bwwaaaar on the throttle sure does make the cars part like the red sea! Especially on a motorway jam
