Possible First Euro trip
I must admit, this lack of more than 2 hot sunny, not cloudy or overcast, days in a row in the UK is starting to grind me down. It also coincides with me feeling an urge for a bit of adventure. I has an idea, which involves me meeting my mate in Mannheim, and then riding down to do Stelvio and the roads in that kinda area. Tbh, I'm in the mood to do it tomorrow, but it's more realistic that it'll be either August or September.
Would be nice to hear the opinions and advice of those who have done these length trips. I'll be doing it on a CBR600FS. I'll be honest, I don't think I've ever riden more than about 100miles in a day in the UK, but I think some of that is that most of it doesn't inspire me really. I plan to blast down to Mannheim as quick as possible so I can ride the nice roads with the company of my friend. Below is my idea so far.... Quote:
Thanks, David |

Re: Possible First Euro trip
I was in France about a month ago and fuel prices petrol and diesel were basically the same as here given the generally high prices and crap exchange rate
Go for it and sod the cost if you spend it the government can;t take it off you some other way |

Re: Possible First Euro trip
Fuel costs weren't putting me off at all, was just curious about that. I was more concerned about the distance for a first timer.

Re: Possible First Euro trip
I'm sure you'd be okay with the riding distances. At the end of the day once you've started you've got to carry on and based on where you plan to be riding the roads should be more than entertaining enough to keep your mind off any aches and pains.
£60 return for the Eurotunnel is about right. £200 for 3 nights accommodation should be more than enough (I would say that would easily do 2 people if you're sharing a twin room). Budget say £15-20 a day for food and drinks (more if doing any significant drinking!) and for about 2000 spirited miles you're probably talking about £250 of petrol. So 10 days away would probably be about £700 all in. Plus probably best to budget for a service and a new set of tyres either before (recommended) or when you get back with that amount of mileage. Sounds like an awesome trip, go for it. Cheers, Matt |

Re: Possible First Euro trip
Check out some of the cheap motels that are in France mainly but go up into Belgium and break up your journey. We have used them loads and they are cheap, clean and somewhere to get your head down.
