Re: Bar conversion with pics
Is that the naked throttle assembly? or did you just just turn it upside down and move it away from the switchgear a bit
Are you fitting bar ends? |

Re: Bar conversion with pics
Thanks for the answers, I ask as I know someone who has a naked and wants to change the riding position but is proper fussy about what/how etc - and wants 'bars that are flattish for appearance sake but also wants more rise - yes, they are a pain in the bum!
I have an SV1000 and I like the standard riding position*, any more upright is uncomfortable for me and gives me a pain in the lower back as all the road shocks go straight up the spine - leaning forward a bit allows the spine to flex over bumps - comfort is such a personal thing! Are your new 'bars aluminium? If yes then they are, (obviously!), rather lighter than steel 'bars, and some people, myself included, have found them to vibrate a bit more, if you find this to be the case a simple and very effective remedy is too fill them with very dry sand packed very tightly, and put a plug of silicon sealant in each end so the sand won't get wet and corrode them from inside out, add to this that you have solid risers, (my naked 1000 has rubber mounted bars), and vibration through the handlebar is a common complaint. Hopefully this won't be a problem for you and you can happily ignore all of that! *Although I changed the 'bars for Renthal Road Bike Ultra Low as they are almost identical in dimension but sweep a bit less, (that is; are slightly closer to straight), as after an hour or two on the bike my wrists felt a teeny bit twisted outward - it's one of those small that changes makes a big difference.

Re: Bar conversion with pics
Yeah, Alu bars and the vibration is a little more than the clip ons, but not unbearably so. A couple of bar weights will be fitted, but my old ones don't fit which is just annoying.
Thanks for your comments. |

Re: Bar conversion with pics
As a work in progress, she is going well. Today I fitted a new clutch cable, one from a DL650 V-Strom and the cable routed perfectly following the old line.
Throttle cables are proving to be a little harder to fix, so in the end I decided to have custom cables made up. A local shop here in Weston Super Mare is doing it for me and promises to keep it reasonable in terms of cost. I need an extra 120mm to allow for the tall risers and backwards slope. I should be picking them up tomorrow morning and am dreading having to put them back in. Anyone know a throttle cable fairy who can do them for me? I was looking at a half faired Fazer today and realised that my little Sylvie now looks very similar. I went for another ride today over a horrible rutted road and not once did it jar my neck or wrists. This new position is fabulous and so comfortable. I love it. |

Todays major project was to get the throttle cables out so that the new ones can be fitted tomorrow lunchtime. Once that was done, I got on with the mini indicator lights I bought ages ago and played with them. I now have front facing, side facing and rear facing indicators that are not those ugly bricks on stalks that come as OEM! All looks lovely too, although more touring bike than streetfighter though. |
