Do you mean when you press the button that nothing happens, it doesn't turn over at all?If so then check the starter button, sometimes you can check if it's your problem by pressing the button side to side when it's not working

it's a pretty simple bit of electrics. Usually you'll find a bit of circuit board stuff with a contact in the centre, and a ring around it which is the other contact, there's a conical spring that sits on the ring, and is the wire between the board and the button which is on the narrow end of the spring, often the contact on the button gets a bit cruddy, or the where the spring sits on the board is a little corroded..

beg pardon peeps, yep...when press starter it doesn't turn over. i checked inside starter assembly for obvious signs of corrosion, muck/water but all looked fine. cleaned unit up and re-assembled. someone had previously suggested to me it could be small electrical unit on clutch lever and i wondered if it was sh*tup. cleaned all contacts but still same problem. went out on it today and after a good run/break, pressed starter...nothing, pressed again and she fired up. i feel it is a connection problem somewhere, will re-check and let you know.

is it possable that the starter relay has developed a problem?

To rule out the problem completly with the clutch switch, just bridge it with a peice of wire and leave it like. The actual switch does not have the problem, just the triger pin gets worn out so the lever needs to be realy pulled in for it to contact properly.

Have you got an alarm installed??

checked starter relay (click) working fine, checked all wiring to both switches for any faults and seemed fine. problem was the engine kill switch had a very small corroded contact. too small to see (opticians tomorrow) but enough to cause a glitch. again thoroughly cleaned switch unit and she blips into life first time. thanks for suggestions though.

Take it you've tried the usual side stand switch routine (i.e clean it out, it may be sticking) but then again, I can't remember if my sv had done of those or not!
