Default Nw200 2015

Hello folks

I am planning to go to the NW200 this year with my brother. I have never been before and am just on her to ask if anyone has been before and where the best places are to go to see the action??

The trip is from Thurs 14th to Sunday 17th May.

I tried to book B&B's closer to the area but sadly most are all sold out or are out of my price range. I have managed to secure hotel in Belfast for the duration of the trip. Yes its about 30/40 miles away but i plan to either hire a car or bike for a few days which should sort my transportation woes.

Or I get the ferry from Troon to Larne and take the bike over

Any help is appreciated.

Cheers

This. You would be absolutely mad not to take the bike.

Chuck Belfast, its **** (empty city centre) and to out the road for the "festivities"... ok drinking!

Buy a 3man tent and head for Portrush/Port Stewart. Thats where the action is.

(Stranraer for the ferry is probably cheaper, never used Troon myself)

Cool

I've checked the ferries for both Troon and Stranraer both are £80 with the bike return

Camping is a 'MUST', as is taking the bike!!!
We camped on the shore of Lough Neagh (north/east corner) near to Antrim (town) fa both NW200 and the Ulster GP.
Found the bars to be 'rough as ****' in Antrim with (some)locals V. 'vocal' about their 'religion'.......no serious problem tho we were 'helped' by other locals.........
Found ourselves camped next to Rob Frost "frosty ********'" on the Ulster visit, his return to road racing following an almighty crash at the IOM, 2 8th places in 600cc if I remember right.........
If ya aint done road racing before, ya gonna love it......... be prepared to 'bitten' by the bug............

YOU MUST TAKE YOUR BIKE

Been loads of times. Used to live in Belfast and it is not empty at all!!! It is jam packed full of pubs and restaurants and is booming at weekends. The night life is awesome and there are lots of very drunk ladies that don't wear many clothes.

I usually stay at home in East Belfast and ride my bike up the coast road for each of the races. (Thurs/Sat/Sun) If you havent ridden the Coast Road get up nice and early and go for a blast when there is less traffic and police on the road and get a bacon sandwich when you get to Portrush.

Dont be tempted to miss the Thursday night races, that was the best bit last year!

I have stayed in Portrush and Portstewart for the race weekend a few times and wouldnt do it again. Was a good laugh but there's not really that much that goes on at the "festival".

Dont forget to wear your waterproofs or at least put them in your panniers. And strap a golf umberella to the bike, it sticks out the back a little but you will be so glad you brought it with you. It has rained EVERY time i have been.

I like watching from Juniper Hill as you see the bikes trying to lbrake as late as possible before entering the final chicane before the finish line. If you watch last years stock thou (i think) race where William Dunlop does a balls out overtake to snatch victory from his brother that's where he did it.

Metrople Corner is great too but you have to pay £10 to stand there on the grass bank and when people crash there it is often very big and very nasty.

As mentioned, take the bike. It's by far the easiest solution for getting around. Our group of lads in 2012 had a mix of bikes and car share and parking near the action with car was a pain in portrush.

We got a hostel bunk room about 5 miles south, defo recommend if u can't b arsd with tent. Will look up the place if u want, was perfect for us lot.

Yeah cool thanks for the suggestions guys. Ferry from Troon to Larne is booked. So its just a matter of getting accommodation sorted. Premier Inn in Belfast is only £97 for the 3 days and is about an hour away.
