Default Speed camera vans and bikes...

Today i went out for a nice blast as the weather was good, although bloody cold!!

Anyway. was going along a nice twisty road, 60mph speed limit, approach a car doing around 45mph, check road ahead is clear, overtake nice and safely although was probably doing 65-70mph by the time i got back into the lane and what do i see in front of me in a layby? one of those money grabbing ******* vans!! Now after i had passed the car, i was slowing back down anyway, although if the van did catch me, its irrelevant.

Now the van was pointing towards me with a small camera on the windscreen and the blacked out rear window with another camera at the back...

Now my question is, obviously there is no number plate on the front of a bike so it wouldnt of been able to nick me as i was heading towards it, but would it have a way of checking my speed and then getting my number plate as i went past the back of the van?

This morning i found a nail in my car tyre and after phoning round, the cheapest i can get a new one for is £130 fitted! so ideally i dont want a ******* fine and some points on my licence to go with it!!

****ed off is an understatement, although on the plus side, had a brill 110 mile ride!!

Any help appreciated!!

You were round Abergavenny on Sunday afternoon as well Hovis.

Ollie, I may be wrong here (a fair chance of that ) but I thought the speed detection kit used to need a clear line of sight to accurately measure the speed, i.e. that includes being behind a windscreen in which case you may be OK as you'd have slowed down before passing the rear of the van, the blacked out windows open for speed measurement. Fingers crossed bud.

The laser cannot operate through glass.

If the camera connected to the laser was pointing out the back of the van, you are prob. ok. AFAIK, the camera in the front is to try to grab the plates of bikes passing the other way.

Good luck 'cos on an open road, those speeds are not unsafe IMO.

It's true though! I always use the 10% plus 3mph when doing enforcement, unless directed to a certain threshold speed by a Sgt. That makes an enforcement limit of 69mph. From many members who know more about the inner workings of our bikes, the speedo over-reads, so even at an indicated 70mph, probably under that by a smidge.

Oh, and by the way, my name is PC 999 Plod of Old Scotland Back Alley.....for any court cases!
