Default Buying a Curvy SV650 (1999-2002) - advice?

I am looking to buy a SV650 (1999-2002). I am currently waiting for my module 2 test.

I know bits and bobs about bikes, I am looking to spend around the £1500 mark becuase it will be my first big bike and everyone i know has dropped/crashed there first bike :P so i dont want to spend loads of money.

just some questions if people could help me out will be much appreashiated

What do i look for mechanically if anything is wrong?

because i am new to motorbikes, what should i look for whilst test riding a bike?

i have also heard sv's are known for corrosion if ridden in winter weathers, is this a big problem?

i see some sv's for 1500 with 38k on the clock and sometimes some with 14-15, do miles matter? or how it been looked after (eg sv 1 owner from new 48k full service history n mot history)

any thing else i missed what i should look for / consider?

thanks,

Pete

Tbh mate it doesnt matter. Spend as little as you can . This will be your training bike tbh . If you drop it no screams . You drop an expensive bike you scream . Theres an sv650 for sale for £800 on other thread or £900 not sure . It has 40k mileage . Not alot really . Then when you move on from sv you will have learnt everything. Therefore you waint drop an expensive bike later on

For £1500 you can find a mint 99-02 bike with less than 20,000 miles. Best thing to do is to take someone who knows what they are looking at with you, its hard to see whats wrong if your not sure whats right. I took a mate with me to buy my curvy and let him check the bike, i test rode it and checked it worked as best i could (it was my first ride of a bike bigger than 250cc) it all seemed ok so i bought it. I think if i had seen a bike and not had a second opinion from a mate i could have bought a bad one.

Good luck with the MOD 2, you are going to have loads and loads of fun on the SV

about 2 yrs ago I paid £1300 for a naked curvy with 13 k on the clock and 2 owners, never let me down or anything but I had to spend a few quid on a chain & sprocket and a couple of other consumables. I may have bought it a bit naive but I don`t regret it as I loved it... I would buy another one.

Winter riding and corriosion is only a problem if you don't clean it or look after it. Wash down once a week followed by a light spray of Wd40/ACF50/GT85 etc and you shouldn't have too much of a problem. Neglect it and it will be scabby in no time.
