Tyre recommendation for track days and road
Hey guys and girls.
My 2000 MY curvy has 20,000 miles, all stock including original suspension. I'm doing a few track days on it and to be honest I'm holding the bike back, not the bike holding me back. However, I've got a California Superbike School level 1 coming up soon, followed by another track day, and I'm wondering if my current tyres are OK going forward. I've got some PR4s at the moment and on the handful of track days I've done they've never slid at all, but I don't want them to bite me once I start pushing harder. So, here's the thing. My SV use is 95% track and the rest is just riding to the track. I don't want slicks, and I don't really want anything that needs tyre warmers. I just want a good all-rounder that's a bit more track capable. Will I benefit from swapping to something like Diablo Rosso 3s, or would that just be a waste of money as my PR4s have loads of life in them. Thanks for any advice. |

Re: Tyre recommendation for track days and road
Stick with what you have and replace with the Mez M7rr next time

Re: Tyre recommendation for track days and road
The measly BHP from the 650 wouldn't be enough to get the PR4's in a tizz. You obviously have to ride as per the conditions, but I doubt very much that you'll have issues unless the tyres are on their last legs

PR4 will be handy if it rains tbh
And they survive better than you might thing because the grove's reduce at the edges

They'll look like that after the first spirited session - don't worry, they're not knackered

I opted for Dunlop qualifier 2's and they are fantastic on the track take no time to get up to temp and fill you with confidence

Re: Tyre recommendation for track days and road
Good call, I've been using them for years and find them more than capable. They also tend to be a fair bit cheaper then the "newer" trendier tyres........
