i have never been great with keyboard shortcuts even though i have a computing degree. however i recently by accident discovered a cracker. if like me your eyes are getting a bit past their best and find reading websites a bit hit or miss its easy to enlarge the whole page.. its simple just hold down the CTRL key and use the scroll wheel on your mouse to expand/reduce the page.

i know a lot of you will already know this but as i said i'm not great with keyboard shortcuts..

so my smile of the day is being able to read the fine txt again without my glasses on

Have you tried adjusting the focus of the font? Press ALT and F4 at the same time

On Macs this also works if you hold down control and press the + or - key and zero to go back to regular size. Might worrk too on PCs?

I was once hit with a question about an excel function to which I told the user to read the manual as I didn't use excel, Her response . You are the IT manager, you should know!

My reply back, Data is the property of the company. People like you hiding it in personal spreadsheets prevent reuse, review, audit. Please come and see me with you requirement and my team will look at how the company can exploit your requirement.

We refuse to install access. Spend millions on Oracle databases/applications and still people want to lock/lose the companies IP.

That's spookily close to what I'm working on at the moment, for precisely those reasons. The db devs won't go near it, the app guys are too busy, so muggins here gets to spend the next couple of weeks playing Excel instead of doing his day job.

But as this is a smile of the day thread: so that I'm not interrupted the big boss has okayed me working from home for the duration.

That does work with webpages on my Raspberry Pi using Linux and Google Chrome, but it does not work when in a document of Libre Office, but the 'ctrl' and mouse wheel does ( which is the way I normally do it on MS windows )
the 'ctrl' + '0' does take the page back to normal size on Linux documents, but the 'ctrl' with + and - doesn't alter page size ( on a Libre spreadsheet 'ctrl' and - keys give you a pop-up window with the option to delete cells etc.)

On Friday a guy I used to go out with but haven't seen since probably 1992 got in touch to say he had a meeting near Lord's and would I like to catch up? So yesterday we went for a drink and although we didn't stay out late it was really good to see him. He lives in Brighton now, runs a couple of pubs and doesn't really see any of the old gang we were part of back then. I never kept in touch with them either. It seems like they all stayed in Chelmsford, got sensible jobs, got married, had kids, bought a people carrier and a Labrador. We may go on a beer sourcing trip to Dorset at some point in the future, which is the sort of daft thing we used to do when we were 18.
