Still entirely possible that malware is causing the issue. It's a lot less probable, but it's not beyond the realms of possibility that it could even be malware specific to RBS.

Have you tried taking the laptop somewhere else & accessing RBS (for example, Grinch's house). Anywhere that you can use Wifi would do, as this would rule out the router.

I'll take it round my mums tomorrow evening and log on to her wireless, and use her laptop at mine.

Viney if you haven't fixed it I can pop round and sort it for you (or at least tell you where the problem is).

Hmmm, You have just said that Verna cannot access the site she works for. RBS.

Right then, is there any VPN software installed to enable her onto company intranets. You usually then find that this VPN software is installed against an interface. I do it with my wireless interfaces so that in hotels etc I can use secure remote etc. But home/in the office I do not need to use the VPN software and hook up by traditional cable

It would be worth checking the hosts file to make sure there is nothing dodgy in it.

WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts - open with notepad, it should only contain the following entries, if anything else is in there delete it, unless you know what it is there for!

# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
127.0.0.1 localhost

Also worth checking the DNS settings on the wireless network device settings, make sure that they are the same as the wired adapter settings.

another possibility is Internet Explorer security settings, maybe the RBS site is in a restricted zone for some strange reason? Have you tried with another browser?

Yes and the number 3 plasma injector blew, but it was unrelated to the problem.
