Default bike stops when i let go of starter button

Hi
I have a curvy sv650....when I start it,,,as soon as I let go of the starter,it stops.....it will keep running if I keep the starter pressed down.....seems like an electrical issue??...bike has been standing for a few months....any ideas where I would start to find the problem?

Thanks

Try this: switch ignition on, don't touch the starter button but bridge the connectors on the starter solenoid with an old screwdriver (wear gloves) to spin the starter. Does the bike start and keep running? If so, the problem is in the wiring to the starter button.

Tried that and didn't start.....it also dies if I release the clutch.....might try disabling the clutch switch?

If it dies with bike in neutral when clutch released may be neutral switch faulty or mechanically disconnected from mechanism.

+10

The neutral switch wires on my Curvy have been bridged so not in use.As per a recent post this is fine on the old 1999/2002 machines.

I followed the four wires up from behind the front sprocket..that plug into the main harness....this is the neutral switch?.....I unplugged it....and the same thing happened..motor dies as soon as I release the starter button......might need a new loom at this rate!!..

The sub loom that goes around the headstock area is often the cause of odd leccy faults in the switchgear handlebar area. Years of flexing lead to some strange shorting.
