Default Is a vernier gauge a good (easy) way to check real wheel alignment? (NOT SV)

I'd like to know whether measuring the internal space pictured on a wheel spacer is a good way to get good rear wheel alignment.

I doubt it.

That said, line the wheels up with string/straight edges and then measure - even if they're not the same at least you'll know what the difference needs to be for the wheel to be straight.

Only if the swing arms been built dead accurate. And sometimes they're not, apparently.

+1

Tried and tested method.

Using vernier there risks all the same errors as using the marks if not a few more.

OP, in a word, no. The measurement you are taking is far too small to give a proper indication of wheel alignment and would rely on the swingarm being bob on in its pivots to the frame which they hardly ever are.

I use 2 lengths of aluminium extrusion clamped either side of the rear wheel so they are parallel then measure the 4 gaps to the tyre at the front and adjust until they are all the same.
