Default New style bike test - scrapped

http://www.motorcyclenews.com/MCN/Ne...test-scrapped/

Apparantly the two part test is to be scrapped. Having recently passed my test I feel this is a backwards step.

Surely the complaints over the swerve and emergency stop aren't valid. If you crash whilst swerving in an open carpark with no street furniture it can't be as bad as crashing on a public road, with all that entails.

Just my two cents anyway

I'd be shocked if this happened, it took them sooooooo long to bring the test in it would be a HUGEEE step backwards to get rid of it.

lol Im not saying it wont, Im just said I'd be shocked.

Its a massive improvement IMO, separates those who "just fancy a bike" from those who can actually ride one.
I did the original test and if Im honest the only thing it tests is if you've got;
a - common sense (life savers etc)
b - the ability to follow directions/read road signs.

Too many people IMO were doing a CBT - then 2 days on a bigger bike before taking a main test consisting of a little rural pootle then going out and buying an R1 etc. At least the MOD1 seperates out those people who cant master the basic controls of biking.

I did my test in October and I agree with what's been said. If you cant manage a 31mph swerve on high grip tarmac with nothing but cones to hit then..
A) you need more practice
B) a powerful machine really is not for you.

I did mine in the rain and still sailed through at 55kph.

Fair enough, but what they should do is introduce a compuslary bike test for ALL bikes/scooters/3 wheelers and even Harly riders. Not a CBT, or any of that nonsense a proper full on bike test from the outset, like cars.

I think the idea of doing 2 tests is a good idea, as said above if you can't do the manouvers on empty tarmac are you really ready to be on the road on a more powerful bike. Personally I don't have a problem with Mod 1, but what I do have a problem with is how it was implemented and how much money was wasted, and there still arn't enough test centres and facilities.

I also agree with the above about there should be a compulsary bike test regardless of what you ride.

Took a little digging, but perhaps one of my favorite quotes on here ever:

Wow, after they spent £££millions building the new test centres?

Why has it not been in a more official source if true? MCN have probably totally misqouted the bloke, he probably just said the test situation would be reviewed or something like that.

Edit - Quote 'It will be conducted entirely on-road and offered at a greater number of sites across the country than the off-road test'

So exactly what we had in the first place then?
