Maybe the forum just decides once you're comfortably past 200 words "sorry that post you just spent a very long time writing is obviously TLDR bull****" why can't you just write 3 or 4 lines like normal people.

My wife (who complains I talk too much) would think it serves myself right for wasting time on a forum when I've still got a kitchen worktop to secure, wall to fill and dishwasher to fit.

Funny how forums can have greater appeal under such circumstances

I'll put you in the registered for over 365 days category, that should help both of us.

Having previously griped about HMRC, I will now gripe about the IRS (US tax authority). Having previously surrendered my green card I thought I was done with the US. Nope, that was for immigration, you have to file a form (8854) to declare you're no longer a US taxpayer. The form's questions are oddly worded so I sought help. Turns out that if you're leaving permanently you need to file 5 years of back taxes. Oh, and if you've had a UK bank account with more than $10000 you have to declare and file another form for each year. Oh, and you have to declare any assets in that time; house, car, motorcycle, valuables.
I inherited a house and car and have bought 4 bikes since I returned, fortunately, probate on my Dad's Will didn't fully clear until 2019 and my I-407 (GC surrender) happened in 2018 else they would be looking at my inheritance. My bank account was a cash ISA but it doesn't matter if it's tax free here, the IRS still want a cut. The final bill for my tax advisor is $2730 but I will probably also owe the IRS for earnings in 2018. I wish I had the same tax arrangements as Amazon or Virgin.

This sounds like a really horrible time for you Mav. I know the bit about being unable to sleep, although for different reasons, and the lack of sleep doesn't help at all. Not sure the Exorcist is going to help either!

This has given me quite a lot of comfort in difficult times.

Cheers Gary

I did manage to do some admin for the solicitor, which saved me going into work.

Time to call the doctor for some advice.

What does help me out is the kindness of family and friends to get me through this dark time
