Light jumping seems to have become standard practice. On my regular commute I have to wait 3 or 4 seconds after getting a green before I can go, added to the built in buffer they must still be going about 6 - 8 secs after their lights go red.

[pedant]

amber actually means stop unless it appears after you have crossed the stop line or are so close to it that to pull up might cause an accident

[/pedant]

but yes, jumping the lights in a car will cause an accident

jumping them on a bike will get you flattened...

Yeah- happens on my 2 major roundabouts on the work commute- Tolworth and Painshill.

Have to put my hands up and say I went over a red tonight- though when it went to Amber, I didn't feel I could safely stop before the red came on. Still felt quite guilty 'bout it too (I did look around the junction as I approached too- wasn't a mindless event....

I find the buses in Manchester are the worst for this! It's bad enough in a car/bike but on a vehicle that's long and heavy its just terrible! Just be as vocal a driver as possible

Bike copper next to me this morning didn't bother waiting for the green, amber seemed good enough for him As was about 43 (indicated) in a 30.

I trust you took his number and reported him? One rule for us and one rule for them really gets me going (have ranted about this before so will try not to here)
