I'm sure they're like the Scientologists of the world who certainly pray on the emotional intelligence, not the intellectual side.

I have found that many intellectuals can be surprisingly naive and prone to things like religion - there is an old saying that the gap between genius and madness is often very small.

My car appears to be being written off (over the phone inspection ) for a decent price and salvage fee was very low so looks like I'm keeping the big old bin on wheels after a wee repair. Why they couldn't have just done that 3 or 4 months ago I've no idea.

Ages ago, a mate of mine was collared by Scientologists doing their 'personality surveys' in the street. Of course, the survey is designed to make it seem the subject is profoundly disturbed and needs urgent help that only they can provide.

For a laugh he went along with it and spent 3 hours in the local branch being harangued by them. When he left, they gave him a free copy of L Ron's 'Dianetics' book, which is a very funny read. It starts out as Basic Developmental Psychology 101 and gradually gets more and more bonkers.

I did that back when I was a student down in Brighton. For about an hour I refused to say anything more than how happy I was as a fresher student, with lots of new friends, no parents or rules, easy lectures, new roads to explore, great pubs... He eventually gave up and showed me out. I probably screwed up his stats for the day but it was hilarious watching him try and try again to say I need SOME help or guidance.

Of course these days my wife is convinced I really do need help but that's a matter of opinion!

I haven't read any of his sci-fi, just 'Dianetics.' He can write what he likes, it's the people who believe it that are daft.
