Default Quick question for the police guys on here

I bought a new car yesterday and I'm picking it up tomorrow but the tax ran out last month and no post offices are open tomorrow. I have bought fully comp insurance and the car has a valid MOT. Question is though, would my insurance be invalid if I didn't have valid tax? I'm prepared to take the hit and get fined (no points I believe) for not having tax, but I really wouldn't want to be driving uninsured.

Cheers in advance,

Paul

You can do it online tonight and they give you a certificate by email until the disc arrives. You just need the number from the V5. I did my bike one last Sunday.

Insurance still valid.

Two calendar months before any action will be taken over the out of date tax.

Only kidding, don't need a hit on ANPR to pull one of those......

Like Pete said, you'll be fine.

Pete
I taxed my car on computer whilst working away in London, but the car had been 27 days out of tax (inside a lock up in west yorkshire off the road) when I was pulled 2 years ago. The traffic officer said that it would be a £60 fine, I said it was taxed with DVLA and he acknowledged that it was but said the offence was 'failing to display' so gave me £60 ticket anyway.

I really wish I had contested it and gone to court now. Was he just looking to fill his quota for the month or was he an actual real life nob end?

P.S. the tax disc arrived around in the post the next morning around 16 hours later. Very annoyed.

You should have, the failing to display offence is only a £30 ticket. The police can only issue the £60 ones to drivers who haven't got a tax to display.
