Default Emergency Stop(pie)!

Just thought I'd share this for the sake of others as a reminder to keep those eyes peeled.

Had and interesting off the other morning on the way to work. I was coming up to the traffic lights on Forest Rd at Blackhorse Rd Tube station, heading west. I was in the nearside lane and had let a car filter in from the outside lane. As I was traveling quite slow and the lights were red, I decided to filter up the inside between the cars and the footpath handrail. As I pulled beside the car I had let into my lane, the passenger sprang her door open! Major stoppie followed with me managing to stop with my bike perfectly vertical! I was expecting the lot to go over the front and sandwich me into the road but the bike fell sideways and managed to hook itself into the handrail by a smashed rear faring! (Unbelievably, the ONLY damage caused by the crash!!!)I stepped off onto the road and could not believe my eyes! My bike, engine running and rear wheel happily spinning, perfectly stood on it's front wheel up against the fence. I was obviously annoyed but realized immediately that I was in the wrong. One extremely apologetic car passenger and bemused driver had to help me get my bike off the fence and off to work.
So a warning to all. Look out!

Anyone got a red rear nearside faring to spare?

Never ever filter between cars and the pavement. It's asking for all sorts of trouble.

Car passengers fault. Car driver too for not indicating and pulling into the kerb. Why did you think it was yours?

These stupid *******s never think to consider other folk be it a motorcycle, scooter, cyclist.

Ah well, y'll know the next time. You could have had a big payout.

Glad you are ok tho' fella.

Despite you being right - I still disagree (as I do with Stu above)

Getting between a vehicle and the kerb is putting yourself in danger of EXACTLY the event that is mentioned, and as such is a mugs game.

Doesn't mean I dont do it from time to time, but I would rather filter on the line between traffic going my way and going the other than go up along the kerb in about 90% of occasion.
