Default Fuel Light Problem

Anyone have any ideas on this problem.
The fuel light on my bike (2004 pointy) flashes constantly even when the tank is full. I was thinking fuel sender unit but it stays flashing even when the fuel pump / sender unit multi plug is disconnected. Everything else works perfectly on the clocks.

Cheers

I think the sensors work by floats, if thats the case then the float could be stuck

If the light flashes when the connection is broken, maybe the connection is broken elsewhere

I am thinking that the fault might be in the clocks. Am i right in thinking when the fuel gets low the sender sends power to the clocks and the warning light comes on

Any idea what happens when the fuel gets low for real, i.e. when it should change from flashing to constant on?
If its a 2004 bike isn't it a warrentee issue?

Does it affect the tacho and / or speedo?? I had a similar problem with my curvy and it turned out to be defective clocks. HTH.

Thanks for the replies. I gave everything a good check today with the multimeter. The fuel sensor works perfect and the wiring up to the clocks/speedo multiplug all checks out, so it does look as if it is shorting out inside the clocks.

I bought the bike slightly damaged and it is a bit altered from standard now. I think they would laugh if i asked a dealer to get it fixed under warranty.

To sort it i'll put a bit of tape over the constantly flashing fuel light and place an LED next to the clocks and run it into the existing wiring.
