Default Indicator/turn signal issue - not working (wires fine, bulb fine)

Ello all,

I'm in a bind, appreciate any suggestions. I have a 2001 SV650s.

I noticed my front left indicator stopped working yesterday. All others still work, rear left & turn signal on dash blink quickly.

I took off the fairing and checked for obvious wiring issues, the little clip connector was plugged. I put a new bulb in and it still isn't working - thats the extent of my diagnostic skills, could anyone suggest what else I should check?

May or may not be relevant:
- indicators are stock.
- Had the front&rear tyres changed yesterday, don't see how this could affect the indicator but it worked before I had the tyre changed.
- the lights behind the clocks haven't worked for a while now.
- The bulb looks fine, tried with different bulb - no luck.
- All other electrics seem fine, battery is relatively new.

I'm reluctant to give this to a mechanic without some idea of what it could be, if I could save the money I'd prefer to have a go. I've combed the forums a little but haven't come across this issue.

Thanks,

Jim

If it is flashing fast it might be your relay. This has to be replaced when you fit LED indicators etc. Take it out and see if it smells burnt if it is then it is a simple swap

The other indicators work fine - if the relay was toast would the other indicators also not work?
Also the indicators are original, non LED.

Shall give it a whiff first thing tomorrow anyway!

But if they are blinking fast it indicates a fault and if it isn't the bulb it must (I think) be the fuse or relay

Can you switch indicators? Try the one from the opposite side. If it works, you know the problem is with the indicator itself or wiring between the main loom and bulb (sometimes the wiring can go or the bulb holderconnections can fur or rust up.

Check the final connector from the loom the the indicator. It should be a long black thing with a retaining clip just inside the cowling.

It can fit up inside. Best of luck of it is as they are devils to get in to clean. Use some contact cleaning and a little ACF50.

As Red ones says, check the connector. Take it apart and get some contact cleaner in there, clean the metal connecters inside gently. While you're in there do the same for any of the other connector blocks you can reach. Sixteen years worth of wet weather is likely to have taken it's toll on the electrical connections.
