Rain off ?
Just seeing if anyone has any real world experience of any "Rain off" type visor products? I've read reviews, some saying they work and others saying waste of time. Then people saying wipe a potato on your visor etc?
My visor isn't beading water like it used to and struggling with evening dark commutes in the rain with glaring headlights etc. Looking in Halfords they have very small motorbike specific bottle of Rain-x and large bottles for car windscreens for not much more money. Is there any difference between the two products? Or are they thee same thing in two different bottles with an inflated price for the motorcycle market?

Re: Rain off ?
I've been using Nikwax Visor Proof for the last few months on the daily commute.
In heavy rain, it works well enough, making a quick turn of the head enough to clear the visor. In drizzle, it takes time for the water droplets to build up enough to be large enough to overcome friction. What it does absolutely nothing for is a wet road, particularly if it's been salted: the salt/dirt always seems to stay behind. Generally, I feel that the performance drops off during the commute (45 minutes average) and so I always clean the visor and re-apply it if I'm expecting rain. I was expecting more, and will try a different brand once I've finished this bottle. It was £6 for a 125ml bottle, but it's lasting a lot longer than the 30 applications advertised (maybe that should tell me I'm not using enough!) As I understand it, it's important to get one which is visor-specific as standard rain-x will degrade the plastic. |

Re: Rain off ?
I used to use the Wurth rain off stuff, which worked brilliantly. All the rain just beaded straight off. Unfortunately it’s not available any more. I’m currently using the Nixwax version but it doesn’t do the job as well. It tends to wash off after a while. I haven’t found anything else as effective as the Wurth stuff.

Re: Rain off ?
Just use Rain-X glass cleaner. Works well on the car and does a good job on the visor too. They do say not to use on plastics, but I've never had any adverse effects from it.
The coating lasts a good amount of time as well. |

Re: Rain off ?
That's the stuff I was looking at in the larger bottles.

Re: Rain off ?
it's the best stuff (IMO) and works really well - on the car and bike. I also use it on the lights to help keep them as clear as possible too, and mirrors.

Re: Rain off ?
I've used it too. Make sure you give it a good polish with a dry cloth, if you leave too much on then it goes a bit blurry when it's wet.

Re: Rain off ?
Whatever product you use its important that the visor is not old and scratched.

Re: Rain off ?
My older brother used to do commuting on his bikes and swears by rain-x used it for years on visors and no sign of damage to plastic...
