Kit depends on what level your planning on going to and how techie you want to look.
All the cave divers I knew were all in backplate and wings. From what I've seen they work well but can be fiddily to set up. Techie people seem to enjoy playing with the kit and spend more time arguing about the best way to set it up than actually using it. Personally I've got a very fetching pink Buddy jacket that's seen me through 150 dives and the previous owner through about 300. I've used Apex regs the whole way through, seem to work well, they don't free flow in 4C water. The only slight downside is they let some water through when you're upside down (I tended to spend most dives that way). The best thing to do really is try out as much kit as you can before buying, you'll find what you like that way. |
