This doesn't bode well.

What was the best the reporter could come up with?
"How do you feel about your husband going back?"

FFS, someone send these morons on a training course in what not to ask people in crisis. How the ***k do you think she feels? Best day of her life?

So choosing to grant a peerage in 2020 is relevant to now because of Ukraine?

Many peerages since the beginning of Parliament have been politically or financially motivated

e.g. https://www.theguardian.com/politics...arty-donations

And the whole world stands back and watches ,powerless to act !
Putin doesn't care how much suffering he causes. He will march into any country that isn't in NATO and wants to create as much chaos as possible in Europe with refugees fleeing from countries he has invaded , before confronting NATO. ( as I see it anyway ) Why can't the rest of the world speak up against what is going on. The United Nations is bloody useless.

A lot to unpick here.

The western aligned nations have spoken and imposed sanctions which will hurt us in the form of inflation. The only real sanction left would be Russia's oil and gas and that would push a barrel of oil to near $200/barrel (estimated) which would probably cause a worldwide recession or depression. Ukraine and Russia supply one quarter of the world's wheat - food prices will soar. India had food riots when onion prices doubled in 2019. Most ME states and many African countries rely on Ukrainian and Russian wheat, food poverty makes countries unstable.

China is a partner to Russia, doesn't particularly like the US, likes global stability and refuses to relinquish Taiwan. They're conflicted but more in Russia's court currently. They could probably stop Putin if they had the will by blocking his access to his financial reserves which they hold (like the west has done). They won't though.

Russia and China have been increasing their influence in Africa and so many of those nations won't support the west, others see colonialism in Russia's war and have spoken out.

I do find it surprising that Israel has not condemned Russia but maybe it would be hypocritical given the Palestinian situation.

The UN would never have been formed (from the League of Nations) if the veto had not been allowed. It was and still is controversial and there are frequent discussions about removing it and making the UN more democratic. The only advantage to the UN is it gives a place for us to talk even if that doesn't go far.

The US predicts that Russia will now claim that Ukraine was trying to make a dirty bomb (ie one that spreads radioactivity but without the big bang) or chemical weapons and maybe sacrifice some of their own troops to justify more barbaric attacks.
In recent Russian skirmishes they flattened Grozny (in Chechnya), flattened Syria (and used chemical weapons) and they are repeating this tactic in Ukraine.

What's left? If a no fly zone was imposed by NATO as pleaded for by Ukraine, sooner or later a Russian or a western plane would be shot down and we start counting down to WW3. At the end of the cold war the USSR and USA had roughly 15,000 nuclear warheads each, they are now down to 5500 approx. It's academic once they start flying.
