Thumbs up My First Bike, My First SV

Afternoon all,

After reading lots of posts in this forum, deliberating between what potential mods to make, and generally reassuring myself that the SV was the bike for me, I've finally gone ahead and purchased my first motorcycle!!!

It's a SV650S, 2012 which was able to secure for 2-and-a-bit grand. Only passed my DAS a few weeks ago so I'm happy to be on two wheels so soon, and what amazing fun it's been this weekend to ride for the first time.

I've decided to ride it for a couple of months first before I make any changes, but as you can see it's completely stock. I want to:
Change the exhaust
Fit a tail tidy
Fit a rear hugger
Install a phone charger (they only existing mod seems to be a RAM socket mount)
Maybe fit some crash bungs...

From you more seasoned riders out there, what would be your priority? Any musts you suggest, or even things to avoid?

Anyway, first impressions after two days, with nothing to compare it to is how amazingly fun it is. It's controlled enough at low revs to avoid any surprises, but then when you open it up you really do feel like you have a proper bike between your legs. So pleased with my choice and looking forward to all the fun times ahead!

Nice, I think black is my second favourite colour. My new one is the same model as yours. You need to fit a "fender extender" if you ever intend to ride on wet or grimy roads, otherwise your radiator will get plastered with crap. I would also keep the snowplough unless you like your lights, number plate and yourself to splattered from the rear wheel.

My priorities were heated grips, fender extender and Scotoiller. Previous owner had already fitted a hugger and a rather fruitier exhaust that I'd have chosen but I can't be bothered to revert to standard.

Not to tempt fate but, crash bungs first. Then fender extender. I like my double bubble screen but it came with it so don't know what it was like without. My Abba stand has had a lot of use. All that and making sure you're riding in the proper good quality protective kit before doing cosmetics like tail tidy.

Tidy looking bike. Makes me want to fit a lower fairing / belly pan to mine.

All good info above but also take yourself out to some quiet traffic free roads and continue to practice things like Emergency braking.

I've been riding on-and-of since I was sixteen,I'm 60 now.I've been involved in two car pull out accidents when I was younger, luckily low speed and reacted in time.No major damage to myself.

In my later riding life I've laid down a bike once.My own fault not reading the conditions and a bit of bad luck.I hit a roundabout a little too fast after light rain downpour but hit a small patch of diesel.I had engine protector bars on my Honda CX500 and they saved any damage to the engine and more important to to my leg as they form a triangle against the road with my leg inside that protection.

You must be diligent all the time on a Motorcycle and anticipate the traffic conditions all the time.We don't have the protection of the car,"Cage".

Enjoy, just remember to pace yourself. On mods as well as speed.
Have a fun summer, not one in plaster.

Thanks all! Fender extender ordered!
Will look into crash bungs this week. As for the rest of the advice, will take heed. Thanks.

Also any tips on removing the horrendous warning stickers from the tank and fairing? I will trail nail varnish remover this week but have a feeling it's going to be a more annoying task than anticipated.
