Default Wheel alignment

Can anybody tell me if the swing arm on a K3 is symetrical either side of the wheel or if not, what measurements you have between tyre edge or rim to the inside of swing arm on each side. My adjuster plates are a bit dodgy and I not convinced I have my alignment spot on. I've tried the string around back of wheel, pulled to the front check but I'm not convinced.

Measure from the middle of the swingarm spindle/axle to centre of rear wheel axle(both sides).

Move the wheel if need until the measurement on both sided is the same.

and another option is to get som paralell pieces of timber, clamp one either side of the rear tyre and check against the front tyre at the straight ahead. (needs to be on a paddock stand for this though)

ive seen those lazer alignment tools, for about 150 quid,

but to be honest, im pretty sure (and i am going to) make one using bits of wood, and a cheap lazer pointer from the market.

I'm on a course for a couple of days at Salford Quays and then I'll try a few methods and let you guys know how I've gone on. Cheers for the replys.

I don't think the swing arm is symetrical - it has to cope with a chain going down one side of it.

As with alignment, I found the string technique rather fiddly, but it did get me a reading.

To be honest, it's easy to see if your wheels are out of alignment, but I wouldn't want to try and align them myself if I found they were wrong. Would rather let someone else do that who know what they were doing.

You can get quite a nice bit of Kit from Hein Gerricke that sits on the sprocket and shines a laser point down the chain sop you can see if the rear wheel lis parallel to that:

Pro's: No messing about with string, easy to do by yourself
Cons: Doesn't involve the front wheel so can't diagnose ****ed forks etc, fairly expensive for what could be replicated using a bit of thin, flat metal, and a cheap laser pointer.

Just a thought.

String: Cheap.

Expensive pieces of aligned with a Laser doo daahs: As accurate as a bit of string.

Conclusion: Get some string.
