Default Cleaning the carbs?

Hi All

Been looking through the Haynes and was looking at carb cleaning.
Now I'm no mechanic but can work my way round most things and was wondering is this really quite a simple thing to do and more importantly how bad are the consequences if I mess it up?

I have removed my carbs a couple of times, once to replace and once to get at the cam chain tensioner and both times I removed them and put them back without any problem.

Just remember to open the throttle a couple of times once you put them back to fill them with fuel so that when it comes time to start the thing again you dont flatten the battery, like i almost did the first time..

Opening the throttle however many times won't fill them with fuel
