Default 03 sv650n engine temp

So started my bike this morning (commuter) and noticed before turning over that my engine temp on the cluster was already at 47degrees C . Rode through normal traffic and was reaching 100-105 . On motorway was around 95-105. Never seen temp go over 90 before.Got to work, shut off, came back a few hours later to give bike a chance to cool down. Key in ignition before cranking and temp was at 57. Just letting it sit there it would fluctuate up and down sometimes getting up to 70, again not even started/idling just with key in and with primed fuel pump ready to be cranked over.

Oil and coolant levels all fine. Anyone come across this?

Thanks

Sounds like the coolant temp sensor is over-reading, could also be the connector is a bit furred up and affecting the reading ... certainly doesn't sound like the engine is actually overheating.

Try unplugging the temp sensor connector, give the pins a spray with contact cleaner then plug / unplug the connector a few times to clean the pins. If that doesn't work, might need a new sensor.

This was resolved by changing the thermostat, which also has the engine/water temp sensor in it.
