Default SV400S - any good/how much?

These sometimes come up for sale. Japanese import.

How do they compare to the 'real thing'? How much do they sell for?

They're pretty good, have only one front disc and obviously less power and torque. I believe it's the same frame and bodywork.

From what I hear, you'll not save much on running costs and insurance will be about the same, so unless it's a steal it's probably not worth choosing one over a 650.

Agree with much of what Michael says, ownership costs aren't that much lower.

Only if it's properly cheap.

Seemed a bargain, but alas sold already. Yep, insurance not much different (2 groups lower I think).

Will go back to scanning for a sv650s or sv650.

Default SV400S

There was one on e-bay about 2 weeks back. Low mileage, looked in good condition, imported 2001? Only 1 bid and it went for 1500 pounds. they are down on power to most 400's. Probably a good 1st bike or has a 2nd bike.

More recent ones get a dual front disc. For me, they're just worse SVs. Most of the 400s have lighter weight or sharper handling to recommend them, the SV400 has nothing except for cheaper insurance and parts availabilit concerns. Revvier engine though if you like that sort of thing.
