Default advice please

hi everybody, just been out a ride on my recent purchase an 02 reg 650s, had a brief issue of both speedo and rev counter going to zero, eased of the throttle thinking wtf is happening, then they came back to life and I rode home no problems, is this suggesting a loose connection somewhere? and if so where do I begin looking? any advice greatly appreciated

I have no actual experience of this problem, but I would check the looms where they go forward to the front of the fairing at the steering head. Could be worn through or fractured if they are not supported correctly, but most likely is that both have electrical connectors in them and there is likely to be some corrosion going on in them. They go forward on the right hand side to the instrument cluster and headlights.

Probably a loose earth/ground connection.

I'd say this, my sv used to loosen the battery contacts enough to cause dash problems, but the bike would still run.
