i personally think your making a mistake. if your bike is in good nick and working properly then keep it and save yourself money. if you want to be a marketing guinea pig then bash on.

everything i have ever bought from India has been "rough" quality and i would expect the RE to be the same. they are cheep for a reason.

by all means go for a test ride but be honest with yourself.

i'll admit that they are a sexy retro looking bike.

That and the price is pretty much all they've got going for them.
The insult of a £3k trade-in on an AL7 will be as nothing compared to the trade-in on an Interceptor in a couple of years' time if they prove to have similar reliability as the bullets.
The Himalayan is better now that the initial wrinkles have been ironed out, but I would definitely counsel against an RE 650 twin till they've been on the market for a while.

If you want retro looks, air cooled simplicity, ABS, top notch build quality and proven reliability, a used Honda CB1100 would probably be a smarter bet than an Interceptor.

I was going to part-ex my white/blue 2016 SV650 with only 1300 dry miles and in showroom condition, but was only offered £3000 which made me think with my wallet instead of my heart!!! I have always looked at the price a new bike was going to cost the new bike minus part-ex value, but this was too much of an insult and made be take a second look at how VERY good the SV is and when the Interceptor arrived in the dealers how it looks close-up and the finish is good, that's GOOD but not very good!! some of the finish on the fittings is not finished to the same standard as the Japanese bikes but the paint finish is good and is what you see in the video reviews. When I queried the part-ex price the answer I got was dealers now use the internet to find a similar bike, mileage and year with the lowest price for sell and then start reducing the price to include road tax a service and of course a profit for the dealer and then tell you what they will give you for yours!!! I also found out that the first service on the new Royal Enfield's is at 300mls and will cost about £250 because they have too reset the valve clearances after the 300mls and being old fashion manual adjusters there is a time and labour cost. I still think they look good but is the build quality from Royal Enfield India as good as another manufactures bike built from this country the BMW G310R?
Talking Heads mentioned the short service interval but I didn't know about the first service. That's like BMW service prices. I'm hearing what I already knew really and think I maybe got a bit excited. I always told myself I would never buy a brand new bike but the interceptor is exactly the look I want and seems like a bargain but it is unproven and and the build quality hasn't been tested in Europe. Most of the reviews I've seen rave about the interceptor but I think a lot of them are maybe just comparing it to the older Royal Enfields. I Just find my bike too painful to ride after about an hour. I then struggle after 20 -30 minutes so it's time to change. This next bike will be the last bike I buy but I think I'll hold off on the interceptor for now.

You're a wise man Bibio and you're right. I've had my SV 15 years now and it only let me down once, when the R&R packed up. I find it too painful to ride for any length of time and was going to go down the comfy kit route but think it would be a shame to mess with, what is a pretty standard bike.
I was letting my heart rule my head so I'm holding off on the interceptor for at least a year. I just wish it didn't look so good.

I do like them but thought an 1100 for weekend blasts was a bit OTT.........but maybe not.

Will keep an aye on that page. Fuel gauge and rust seem to be the early winners.

I've also been thinking about the 2019 Kawasaki W800, bit more expensive though and paint job unbearably drab so would need spraying, adding to the already high cost.

Or a Triumph T100, again more expensive, but superior build quality,
Plus... reliability of both these bikes is already established.

The new W800 looks a lot nicer than the old. I think a T100 is out of my price bracket though.

Decent used T100 can be had for around £7k,the Kawasaki is over £8k new and I believe has only just gone on sale this week, so no used ones with ABS.
