Can a loose spark plug lead cause this?

Riding home from my service on saturday and after 15 miles my bike just cut out. I thought my ecu had dislodged again and needed resitting. Anyway long story short i got home by recovery truck to lift the tank pushed the spark plug lead in and it's been running ever since.

Here's every point i've got.

1. Bike would start, rev out fine but once in gear and revs applied it would cut out inside 2 seconds

2. once the start button was pushed it would try to start, die off including the dash and then reappear and fire up to life.

3. I tried testing it with the tank cap open to see if there was a fuel blockage.

4. My fuel light was on but only had been on for 5 miles. I didn't refuel until after i'd played with the lead and rode another 2 miles after it.

One thing I would check would be the battery leads. I had a similar problem only to find that the +ve lead was slightly loose

nope it's definetly tight. I thought this. It's definetly an electrical fault in my eyes because off load the engine revs out beautifully up to 10k.

have you checked that the HT leads haven't got any breaks or corrosion on the ends of them. Just a thought but I recently had to replace mine, as they were causing one of the many running probs on my bike.Mine kept cutting randomly and then running funny. That particular prob was solved by new HT leads(some cheap lengths of graphite core ones from Halfrauds)...however the saga continues as theres some more gremlins appeared in my electrics now

well bike is still under warranty. My question is can the lead cause this because it broke down 15 miles after a service and Mr "35 years worth of experience" is right apparently even though i've spoken to someone with 35 years worth of Car,Bike and Generator experience who told me that if they've just serviced it chances are there's your problem.

Not saying this is your problem, but FWIW the voltage required for sparks increases significantly with engine load (i.e. throttle opening) so if things are right on the margin it is possible for it to run up under no-load fine but not when trying to pull the bike.

I'd tend to go with the "service collateral damage" theory if there was no evidence of problems beforehand.

That says to me weak battery or charging system, or a loose main live.

All problems have now disappeared and all i did was lift tank push in lead and put the tank back.

In that case no, a loose plug lead won't cause it to start erattically in that way. IT would crank as normal just misfire on one.

would you believe the servicing to be at fault?
