Glencoe Massacre 2016 Poll
I'm arranging the Glencoe Massacre for 2016.
This is the one and only decision that will go out to a poll and I'm not promising I'll be able to adhere to the result, but it's an important one and I'd like to know peoples opinions. If you've attended the Glencoe Massacre weekends before and especially if you'd intend to do so again in 2016, please can you vote? Finding a venue for the GM has never been an easy task, and I don't want to (and logistically can't) find a new one for 2016. So, do we.... A) Go somewhere new, to a town, where people will have to book their own accommodation within walking distance of the town centre. A town with plentiful accommodation would be chosen and I will provide lists of possible options to suit all budgets, with prices, telephone numbers and website addresses. The Friday and Saturday evening social gatherings will be at a chosen pub in that town centre. Breakfast will be at a chosen cafe in the mornings, and the rideout would start from there immediately afterwards. B) Go to a venue that we have used before for the GM successfully, where everyone could stay in the same place, and follow the usual format. You'll have the accomodation chosen for you, and you'll eat and socialise there. It's most likely that it will be nowhere near a town centre. C) Either of the above, both work equally well for you. |

Re: Glencoe Massacre 2016 Poll
Either
So long as we all meet for a few drinks, then all meet to ride bikes, then meet again for more drinks, it's all good. Dean and Ron have done a great job for the ones I have been to, but I can guess it's been pretty hands on and a lot of work. A more relaxed approach could maybe be a winner |

Re: Glencoe Massacre 2016 Poll
I've voted to use a place before just because I enjoyed the last one but I'll still go no matter what is decided.
Well done for stepping up Col. Is it an East Midlands GM this time? |

Re: Glencoe Massacre 2016 Poll
I've voted for either, because it is a great week away for me. I'd not been for a few years and had forgotten just how good it is!
I'd say do whatever suits you Colin. Thanks for stepping up for this. |

Re: Glencoe Massacre 2016 Poll
I voted somewhere as before, purely because, I like the format. Well actually, I like the format which has been evading my bike for two years on the trot. It's as far as I'd like to travel on my particular bike and I kinda like the areas it's central to on the rideouts. I also like the very informal way chucca organised it, which fitted in well to our plan B on both years, also that he catered for us with Italian motorcycles with tank ranges that only get you down the next village :lol . I can vaguely remember previous facilities, which would also would fit in with a plan B.
I hate the midges though! Tbh, at this moment in time, the GM isn't a priority. So I'll watch and decide when there's solid venue. The way things are looking, it could well be a fleeting visit on a honeymoon trip! We don't have babysitters for the foreseeable future, so cannot commit to an ideas stage.... Getting bored of plan B!

Re: Glencoe Massacre 2016 Poll
Voted for either.
It's the company rather than the location, as long as the rideout is accessible. Town: 2 points: safe parking of bikes? Not always easy to ensure, although nobody's likely to meddle with mine ( except Dean! ) Breakfasts: many will be in B & Bs so not easy to eat a second (communal) one. Whilst personally happy with the proposed mileage, there isn't really a short cut available if it turns out to be needed. Apologies if my comments seem negative, Colin, but are meant to help finalise things. Many thanks for your efforts!

Re: Glencoe Massacre 2016 Poll
MacDonald Hotel in Kinlochleven is almost perfect for accommodation, getting everyone together etc.
If we can agree a date with them, everyone books their own accommodation. Lunch seems a PITA to organise so a town with a central car park to stop for an hour and everyone does their own thing? Maybe Aviemore - supermarket/chippy etc. Or a morning loop back to Fort William or Green Welly gives a bail out option too. As above though, happy with anything. |

Re: Glencoe Massacre 2016 Poll
I've only been to the last GM and it was great, so I went for somewhere previous as it worked fine and made it dead easy for me to just turn up and meet everyone as everyone was in the same place and I didn't really know many people. My only concern is that everyone eating/staying separately people will group out and it won't be so easy to meet up and the people aspect suffers. However it's only a preference I would still come if I had to do my own accomodation/food.
