It looks like it had been filled with 2 stroke oil, it was bright red, but still looked like oil lol

I've been a little quiet on here of late, had to go back to working full time for a couple of weeks as my boss was away on holiday.
I've bought a nickel plating kit because the company I used last time charged me £60 to do about 3 dozen bolts on the CBX, so thought I'd have a bash myself.
I made up the chemicals & set up a battery charger as a power supply. My 1st attempt wasn't too good because I was too impatient, but the 2nd attempt has rewarded me with some nice shiny bits.

I've also received some Belzoma metal paste off a mate of mine & have started to repair the crankcases which were in a bit of a state.
I found a couple of old suspension bushes off my old CBX550 which were ideal for the job, so set to with the hacksaw to make them fit..... It was a bit nerve racking, but seems to have worked . I then thoroughly cleaned both parts & bushes, then mixed the Belzoma & fitted the parts together. I measured another crankcase to make sure everything was in the right place & threaded a bolt through the bushes to keep it all square. I will show the results later when I've had a nosey this morning with everything dry.

Belzona didn't work so had to consider another option.
After finding 3 of my engines having broken crankcases, I thought I would take a look at the bike I had with the seized engine. Crankcases were in very good condition, so spent a couple of hours getting the crankcases separated from the cylinder. I have done it! piston is still stuck in the cylinder, but don't care now as I have a pair of useable crankcases. Project MB50 is back on

So today I have tried my hand at paint spraying for the 1st time. I'm quite pleased with the results. I am back at work tomorrow, so this should give the paint a little time to cure, then I'll move on to the engine rebuild.

Not a lot has happened for a few days. Bought a gasket set off Ebay & the bugger has supplied the wrong one, so am waiting for another to arrive.
While I was waiting, I thought that I would start to rebuild the gearbox & crankshaft, that's now done, with new bearings & seals.

So that's where we're up to at the moment. As soon as I receive the proper gasket kit, work will recommence

How many bits are left on the bench after rebuilding the gearbox? If it was me there would be several... And if it ran at all after me fiddling with it the bike would probably go backwards.

Keep the pics coming Col
