Default F800GS & alternatives

I'm looking at buying a second bike for my commute, I'd love an R1200GS but they've held their value too well, I stepped down to an f800/f650gs but again still a bit steep for what they are.

I don't really want to spend >£3k and I'd like something upright with hand guards and a good screen to keep the cold off on the motorway. ABS would be great but may not be any good for my budget.

What you reckon??

Does it have to be an adventure style bike ???
The V Strom are road biasd and cheap
Use an 650 SV detuned lump.
Or theres the TL1000 engined alternative.(its de tuned so dont let the TL widow maker reputation put you off).

As good as I'm sure they are I'm a bit of a tart and think they're too ugly whereas I actually like the look of adventure style bikes. I did see a Yam XT I liked the look of once but when I looked them up I couldn't find the variant that I saw!

BMW k75? Real lazy triple engine, shaft drive, heated grips and hand guards as standard on some models and really well built. Oh and some models have abs front and rear with brembo brake calipers so a lot less prone to seizing up with all the road salt. A good example can be had for 1500 easy enough.
