Even our latest pair of 'supercarriers' are not nuclear powered, saw an article said they decided not to use nuclear because of cost, runs on gas turbines driving generators to feed electric propulsion motors. They only have a range of 10,000 miles - unlike the 'proper' American carriers that can go to Mars and back without refueling.

We may well have cause to regret such cost cutting if anything does kick off and our superfast carriers have to go at the same speed as the support refueling tankers LOL

Seems like a clear case of 'spoiling the ship for a pennies worth of tar' as the old navy saying goes.

I got a bit of range anxiety today. Only had 17 miles left. Then I realised I was back in the diesel and there are a dozen fuel stations within that distance. I also increased my range to 500 miles in 5 minutes.
What I didn't enjoy so much is the 72 quid it cost me.

Amazingly, Ford were working on a nuclear powered concept car (think it featured on a Jay Leno show) https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Nucleon
