Sounds like you have no static sag. I know nothing about setting suspension but have watched the Youtube series by a guy called Dave Moss Tuning (his site is called 'Two Clicks Out'), he's very good. If you have a track day booked you can book an internet link with him and by looking at bphotos of your tyres he can tell you how to set your suspension. It seems like magic.
I am not affiliated to Dave or his site and I do not know anybody who has had an interaction, but it really is worth watching his channel.

You might check the date of the last post in this thread Don. This has to be one of the finest thread resurrections at a mere 14.5 years!!

This is true, but a new member will always scroll back and use the search engine so no surprise there, in face we'd probably all jump all over then if they asked a question without searching first!

Suspension is something that isn't date related, new owners will always go through the same experiences as old hands and it's also something were the general advice is not age restricted (active suspension and other mod cons aside) so it still stands.

I could understand that if it was someone looking for info, but replying to a question for someone that they asked years ago?

I guess it rather depends on how you view posting on forums. I don't think of it as necessarily answering the original OP, more a case of throwing information into the pot for all to see, although it should be relevant to the original question to stay on topic....

If the original OP asked that question all those years ago you can bet there were others who saw it and benefited from the discussion, and by now there are probably a whole load more.....so resurrecting the thread with new information that hadn't been offered before can be useful.

What DonSteve is basically saying is that if you appear to have harsh initial suspension that it's quite possible you have to much preload in. This is actually very common as a lot of people wind on the preload thinking it makes the bike "Sportier" because everything feels stiffer, when all they are really doing is increasing the load needed before the suspension reacts.

Worn shocks generally lose their damping effect which tends to translate into a rather vague wallowing type feel rather than the skipping that the OP originally described. If you're a remotely sporty type rider you will also feel and hear an almost thumping effect when accelerating off bends as the rear tyre trys to find grip. A sudden increase in rear tyre wear is another obvious sign!

Well that seems to have kick started the suspension forum again. Thanks for the postings Red Herring, good info. Old suspension is still old suspension and there's nothing better than learning from the experience of others.
