Default Oil Starvation

As I killed my SV this way, and I had a spare 5 mins when I was supposed to be working. I thought I'd Google what breaks when you do starve an engine.
I stumbled upon this. Which just so happens to be a V-Strom engine autopsy.

So if like me, you have never seen into the belly of the beast. Enjoy.

These posts have nothing to do with me, but everyone loves a picture.

At some point I plan to take my engine apart and see if the same had happened to me.

That's really interesting, thanks for that. Surprising that given the damage to the big end, the cam bearings and lobes were still absolutely fine. The conventional wisdom is that the top end starves for oil first.

I had a similar sight when stripping a friends FZR400R, he used to cain it mercilessly everywhere, one day it just had enough and seized while he was doing a doughnut! When I started to pull it apart all i got out of the oil drain was about an egg cup full of what looked like treacle. After the full strip it was obvious that it had been starved of oil for some time ... spun shell bearings, seized piston pins, badly scored bores and the list went on. Needless to say ... basic maintenance was definitely not on his list of priorities. Result ... one scrap FZR400R . Just not worth the cost of a full engine build.
Lesson learned.
