Petrol smell from exhaust.
Hi, Is it normal to sense a petrol smell from the exhaust even if the engine is warmed up? Even after 30 minutes of riding I can smell petrol coming from the exhaust is she running rich?
My fuel consumption is also not that great... I get around 120-140 Miles to a tank(15L) and thats city riding, which i think could be better |

Re: Petrol Smell
your consumption is about level with mine so you're not burning huge amounts of excess fuel, what year bike is yours?

Re: Petrol smell from exhaust.
that is good mileage for around town, I'll get about 110 to 15L in town comuting!
but my exhaust is half the size and i have no snorkel in my airbox! get out on some nice roads and you'll see a lot more miles to the tank! Before i started changing things i got 190 to a tank. |

Re: Petrol smell from exhaust.
Wow i used to think there was something wrong with my consumption. Ive never been on some nice roads for long to see a huge difference in my consumption.
My bike is a K5 pointy so is this petrol smell normal then? |

Re: Petrol smell from exhaust.
I've noticed a similar thing at petrol stations, you can smell the stuff everywhere! I did tell the person behind the counter last time I was there (this morning) but they didn't seem too interested. Very strange.

Re: Petrol smell from exhaust.
No TBH, they don't usually smell very strongly. It suggests unburnt fuel which could be a running problem or it just needs a bit of atune up. New air filter, balance the TBs and set TPS. Otherwise it may be running in cold start mode all the time suggesting a bad temp sender.
Or it could be something and nothing.

Re: Petrol smell from exhaust.
Do you have an aftermarket exhaust pipe with a gigantic hole running through it?
ie...no baffles, and old packing within?
