Default Which rear brake pads?

Hi all

So in the process of changing my chain and sprocket I removed my rear brake caliper and realised there is not an awful lot of wear left on the pads.

Quick question for the communal wisdom that is forums.sv650.org...

Is there any point in getting sintered pads for the rear brake? I'm not really going to be hammering the rear brake that much, and more braking power just means more chance of locking the rear...no?

Also, I've read that I should sweep the discs with a fine grade glass paper if I change the pad compound. Is this necessary or have I just read some very race focused/pedantic article?

As always, thought and general musing gratefully appreciated.

Thanks

Nath

ummm i dont think it matters about the sanding of the disc as the new pads will do that for you

Scintered (HH) pads can offer better bite and outright power, but some feel that they wear discs more aggressivly than they like, and they may not be quite as good when cold. Think of them like sports tyres, not for everyone's needs, but most think they're a useful choice.

I think their point was to remove old compound from the previous pads, altho I don't see why that's necessary, like you said it's going to come off sooner or later with the new pads. I dunno, maybe it's to prevent glazing...whatever that is?

I opted for the EBC HH in the end, altho in hindsight I think I should have gone organic. No real need for HH on the rear. I think the warnings about having matched pad types are probably just a marketing ploy. If I want more back brake, I'll just 'stomp' on it a little harder.

btw, after looking everywhere for the cheapest ones, I found that busters have an ebay shop where they have a limited selection of items for a bit cheaper than their main shop, lot's of them with free postage too...bonus.
