Default Random question (for the chemical techies/geeks)

OK, so I know some of you are good with chemicals etc. There is a question I have that's been bugging me for a while, and I can't find an answer in google.

Following a discussion with a friend, the argument came up (yes, I'm a geek, deal with it) as to if ultraviolet light reacts with infrared light or not.

The ultra-violet we're talking about is specifically around 300-500nm. The infrared light would be somewhere in the usual band of 3µm-15µm (mid-long wave IR) I'd imagine.

Don't ask how the conversation started, you really don't want to know.

So anyway, would there be a reaction between the two at all, and if there was, what sort of reaction would be given?

Depends if you mean "reacts with" or "interacts with"

You asked the geeky question........they won't react at all in the chemical sense. They might interact and share some of their energy but the chances are they will, in a broad sense, co-exist together, just like light of all wavelengths in the visible spectrum does.
