Problem?
How many injectors has it eaten that you need a bloody computer to program to work with the ECU?

To add to that whinge, diesel astra, you'd think a nice simple one given the age. NOPE! ECUs, fault codes you can't read without a fancy tool, 'uggins of wiring in the engine bay. God what was wrong with normal injector pumps.

It's 'cos you's got a little light and you don't start the car 'til it's gone out init.

That protects the spark plugs so they last much longer like

Diesels don't even have spark plugs, they have glow plugs.

A spark plug does what it says on the tin, creates a spark, and it does so the whole time the engine is running so is a crutial park of the car running.

A glow plug heats up incredibly hot just one to start the car... then it's not used again until you start the car next time.

Hence why spark plus need replacing, checking and cleaning up quite a bit and you rarely need to touch a glow plug.

I hear what your saying about FDSH's though. I once bought a 3 year old, ex lease Renault Laguna 1.9DCI, it looked lovely, but had been in a major smash and a list of mechanical faults as long as your arm... yet it had a full service history.

A full dealer service history is only worth something when from a reputable dealer and owned by an enthusiast.

Blistering reputation means nothing BTW, because 99% of customers don't do this, so long as their car doesn't break down, they judge the dealer on how nice the man at the front desk was. Look at the reputation of Saltire Suzuki, and the walls at W Livingston are covered in customer service awards. Can't fault either of them for being nice people to deal with, but that's no good if behind the scenes the work isn't being completed.
well I hope that it works for you. I think becuase you are interested you know your way round and are liable to check up on things and will notice if things ain't done right.

As for the rep I know but I'm going on word of mouth from guys who work in the motor trade and take their motors there. so fingers crossed - I'm more worried about the fact that they may wash it and I don't want them going anywhere near it with their sceggy sponges!

Besides, it's an Astra, I'm amazed it's not fallen apart yet...

just to be pedantic,

IIRC modern common rail diesel engines rarely use their glow plugs, my 59 plate BMW doesn't use them until its -5 and my dads VW van doesn't use them until -11

either way,

You done those spark plugs yet mate?

When I was a lad, we took them out blasted them, reset the gap, gave them a wipe ,held them on the block[got a shock] to make sure they worked and put them back in.

Injectors aren't what they used to be either
