MGT061 but not restricted
Hi guys
So many years since I visited this forum I had to create a new login. I bought an new SV650S in 2005 in France which was not restricted. I'm an old fart and never held a restricted license. 12 years later I'm trying to bring the bike into Switzerland and notice the registration document says both unrestricted but also only 25kW, so a contradiction. The original dealer no longer exists and were taken over by a non Suzuki dealer. I've tried to obtain a COC from Suzuki France explaining the error in the registration document and after 3 months I finally receive a COC which says power 25KW and may speed 150km/h. Totally useless to register the bike. Suzuki in Switzerland refuse to help and Suzuki in France say this bike can only ever have a COC with 25KW. Why? I then whipped out the ECU thinking I could prove my case and it's marked MGT061 - restricted!. How is this possible? The top speed of the bike is just over 210km/h indicated and there is no power losss up to red line. I've owned it since day 1 so only the dealer could have modified it. Anyone selling the correct ECU? |

Re: MGT061 but not restricted
...is this ever likely to be an actual issue...???...
...I thought the rider had to be qualified, not the bike... ...I would just ride it and not worry so much...be an out law biker... Last edited by Hapo; 07-07-17 at 02:32 PM. Reason: yes |

Re: MGT061 but not restricted
EU laws differ a lot from the US and also how likely you are to get away with it.

...I see what you mean...this thread had me head spinning... ...I would probably just forget aboot it anyway...I don't see how it would be an issue if the rider was qualified to ride an unrestricted bike... ...the fact the fact the restricted bike is faster than it is supposed to be seems more of a curiosity to me than a legal issue... ...I do understand that the bike in question would be easily identified as a restricted bike by the paper work...so what...???... ...if you have crashed out, or are under arrest for road crime, methinks this will be the least of your problems... |

...could be an American thing...we tend to cling more to the spirit of the law, rather than the letter of it, eh...
...it is a bad bet to try to bribe American police, though... Last edited by Hapo; 07-07-17 at 02:22 PM. Reason: ...fukin' commas... |

If you're speaking of US citizens as a whole, then it can be "letter" or "spirit" depending on who's offering the judge the most money, right? I seem to recall reading about a US import tax dispute over whether tomatoes were fruit or vegetables.

Re: MGT061 but not restricted
Here in UK we have plenty of laws, but sometimes you wonder where the justice has gone.
Plenty of laws is what you get when most people in government studied law, and they churn them out like shelling peas, most new laws cover stuff already covered by existing laws, and then there are EU laws, but best not go there. What we need are more business people in government, then we would have less laws and more jobs and a better economy. Quote:

Great tomato quote! I wonder why the tomato is always the example, not cucumbers or marrows or pumpkins.

Re: MGT061 but not restricted
The problem is not riding it as I've been doing that for 12 years oblivious to errors in the registration document. The problem is registering again in another country. For this you must have all documents including the COC, all correct and original to obtain a new registration document. In this case the COC and part of the original registration document doesn't match the bike and could be easily noticed when they test the bike prior to registration.

Re: MGT061 but not restricted
...please excuse my lack of comprehension...
...it seems like a sticky wicket indeed... ...is there a chance it could slip through due to the ECU being the correct part despite the performance...???.... ...is there no special dispensation for missing documents...???... |
