Default Gear indicator issue / adjustable levers

Well I finally made a decision and bought a 2018 SV650!

I've only had two rides on it so far, and today noticed an issue. Well kind of two issues, possibly connected.

I had adjustable levers fitted (I have small hands!) and on the closest setting, there are times that it's harder to change gear, more of a solid click if you know what I mean, taking more force.
I moved it onto the next setting (2) and that seemed to help it a bit, but after so many pulls of the clutch, it was slipping back to setting 1, and eventually, one pull and it clicked all the way back. It shouldn't do that.
I had adjustable levers on my last SV and had no issues. Wonder if it's possible they're faulty, or fitted incorrectly?

Secondly, a few times when I came to a stop, either pulling in somewhere, or at a junction, the gear indicator went off and the gears wouldn't change. I was pressing down to put it in first, or neutral, depending where I was, but nothing happened, I couldn't feel any real click with my foot. I thought it would change anyway, even if the gear indicator didn't show it, but nothing. I rolled a bit forward and it came back on and it all started working again. That was when I came to a stop so it wasn't too bad, but once it happened when I was slowing for traffic lights. I was coming almost to a stop and couldn't get it to work, but then traffic started moving so I pulled away again (not sure what gear I was in, 4 or 5) and then it came back.

Has anyone else experienced this? any suggestions please?

Sounds like your lever isn't moving far enough to fully disengage the clutch

Maybe people who have the AL model can comment on the gear indicator problem but it sounds like you got the bike from a dealer and had the levers fitted by them.
Get it back there and let them sort it out.

Congratulations on the new bike.

I have a 2016 SV which is similar apart from paint and, perhaps, fuel tank capacity. The gearbox action is exceptionally light and smooth in action if yours is not then either it's very new or your clutch is dragging, maybe because of your lever. There should be about half an inch of free play at the lever end. The adjustable levers are not supposed to self adjust, so that's definitely wrong and needs investigating.

Regarding the gear indicator, twice (in 3 years/23000 miles) I've been caught out at a junction in too high a gear (usually 3rd) and the indication on the dash went blank as I endeavoured to find first. Most bikes are reluctant to drop down through the gears at a standstill and I assumed that the blank display was caused by the selector not fully seating and the gear indicator abandoned figuring it out until it seated properly. Each time it resumed operation quickly (after first gear change moving forward).

I'd fit the regular clutch lever and see if that works ok - I only have small hands and use a regular, non adjustable (clutch) lever.

I've had the same on my AL7 (and my previous K6S) of the gearbox very occasionally seeming to get stuck between gears when slowing down to a crawl or stopping - it only happens if I am coasting to a stop with the clutch pulled and treading down the gears at the same time.

The solution is just to release the clutch really gently, then the positive stop in the gearbox will engage. Then pull the clutch again.

It never happens when I'm blipping down the box a gear at a time.

Thanks guys.
I got the levers fitted by a garage that are lowering specialists and they did it at the same time for me. It’s a bit of a ride away so I might just take it to my usual local garage and get them to check. I rode it once with the original levers but I really struggle, it makes my pulling away and gear changed jerky because I can’t gently release it. Hopefully it will be an easy fix.

I’ll keep in mind to go down gears before I come to a stop. I usually do do that and maybe that’s why it’s only happened on the odd occasion, perhaps when I didn’t do that. And maybe the fact it wouldn’t change was down to the lever issue

I do tend to coast and then repeatedly stamp down to get down to 1st before I come to a stop.
