Default 15k service - valve clearance

Hi All,

I've just booked the blue cow in at George whites in Slough on Thursday for her 15k service.
Apparantly the 15k service should include the valve clearance as part of it, and they have quoted me 353 quid to do, I also know that I possibly need the brakes seeing to and don't know if I need new chain n sprockets too.

So as you can imagine the bill is going to be astronomical.

Is the quote they've given me reasonable?
Should I be trying somewhere else for doing the job? taking into consideration that the service needs doing to keep my warranty valid.

I know that PDQ are also soehwere in slough, will it invalidate my warranty if I have the work done there, or elsewhere that are not a suzuki dealer?

Sorry about the questions, but I really want to keep the costs down on this service, any ideas appreciated.

Cheers - Mass

From previous things I've read on here, the valve clearance is just a check and it's not that likely that any adjustment will actually be needed. Some people (myself included) would just ask them to skip the valve clearances and hope the bike isn't one of the very few that have a problem with the valve clearances. Saves a lot of money (£150ish - anyone got a more accurate figure? - due to the amount of labour involved) but the dealer may not want to do it or may not stamp the book if they leave it out. How much warranty have you got to go?

Play around with the search feature as there are quite a few posts about this - was several months back though.

5 hour job they said Mart?

Gotta drop the bike off at 9ish. I've booked a bike with the for the day anyway to get me back to work.
IF its an overnight jobby then I'll take their bike home - game on!

Ask them if they'll leave the clearances and see what they say - there are meant to be signs that show if there's a problem with the clearances, again, in an older post. This has a bit of info:

http://forums.sv650.org/viewtopic.ph...alve+clearance

includes rictus, who I respect, saying "I would say on the 4 different engines I've checked this on none have needed adjustment, some as high as 60,000 miles."

15,000 is childs play
