Default Temp Display

I have noticed recently that after turning on the ignition of my SK3 (of a morning) the temp does not display (- - -) until about a mile into my journey. When it appears the temp is about right (21). Just a bit strange as it would usually appear as soon as the display fires up...

Anyone else noticed this?

I could understand if the weather was bleeing cold, but its definately not.

Cheers all.

21?? Umm, I'm pretty sure my K5 doesn't have an external temp monitor, just the coolant temp (which tends to sit at 80 odd rather than 20 odd).

That said, I've not pressed any of the buttons really, I may be missing out

I have a K3 - my engine temperature doesn't register until about 21 ish...although it is summer, it does get cool overnight. I think provided your temperature does register after a short while, you're possibly worrying about nothing. Only my opinion mind!!

mine does the same, i would assume it's because temp sensors that accurately read from 0 to 100+ degrees are hard to source or expensive, you know the engine is cold, the only real reason for a temp sensor is to make sure you're not boilding your coolant so they bought ones at the right price that are accurate in that temp range

does no one ever read the manual - temperature is not displayed (---) until it is above 20 degrees ie 21, it reads coolant temperature not air. Rant over

Quick qiuestion on this subject

On a hot day in slow traffic what sort of temp is normal?

I think I remember from the manual (yes I did read it ) there is a max of 120 deg, if the coolant gets to that then panic and pullover or words to that effect.

reason I ask is mine quite often gets to over 100 deg is this normal?

"Hot day"? What's that then? Speak English man!

High nineties / low hundreds seem to be the norm for heavy traffic on the warmest days for me.
