When I changed the can on my D650, Rictus sugested that I introduce what he called a 'controlled leak' with some washers on the bolts. The difference in sound was amazing. So if it sounds great, leave it

Bathroom sealant is alright, takes the heat fine.

That or the "gun gum" type products which are a white sealant that bakes on to a hard set.

How much is escaping? If you leave it leaking then it'll rumble on the overrun and shoot flames

Edit: disclaimer; flames on the overrun are cool, but it's still an IL4...

Not a lot at all, just a tiny jet where the main clamp bit and bolt meet meaning the metal cant touch the pipe properly and press down on it. and its only on the idle it does it . As soon as the revs rise the extra gas presuer seems to send it all out the back fine. I just want it sealed propely for peace of mind. Even if it does mean taking the bloody can off again.

you lot with side mounted pipes dont know how lucky you have it. I had to virtually dissmantle the back end of my bike to get the can on.

the only plus is there is no cutting involved.
