Default 2014 SV650S L2 - exhaust cutting?

Hi all,

Searched for info on this but havent been able to find an answer.

Im after a nice noisy exhaust for my new bike, im wandering if cutting the stock exhaust above the weld is still the way to go, looking at it, it looks like it could be removed without cutting but I may be mistaken and it could just be to remove a heatshield.

If anyone has an idea about this I'd love to hear it!

"noisy" is somewhat subjective, but most end cans are a vast improvement over standard, the joints on the standard exhaust are before the footpeg location so you need to cut beyond that.

All SV650s from 1999 to present have a system without a nice convenient break in it for fitting a slip-on can.

Options are:
Full system - expensive, but generally better flow, and almost always significantly lighter.
Cut stock exhaust and use slip-on can - looks fine (though there is at least 1 extra clamp) sounds fine, heavier than a full system, significantly less cash.
3/4 system - some systems retain the stubby rear downpipe, can be slightly cheaper than a full system.

If you just want the looks and noise, get a slip on can and cut the system. For 99% of us, it's the right decision. If you don't want to cut the system have a look on ebay for a used one, or a 2nd hand slip on can. Be aware from 2007 onward there is an lambda sensor in the exhaust, where as this does not exist for earlier models so check any pipework you do get has taken this into consideration.

Reciprocating saw or angle grinder with a cutting disc.

Measure twice, cut once, and use something slow enough that you can tell if you're making a mistake and do something about it.

Looks like fun... Holy bikes batman!

Can't wait to do mine and actually have a v-twin roar instead of a whisper.
