Probably police now looking for this model of car on traffic cameras in the area shown on roadside signposts for the off ramps, and appealing for dashcam footage from other vehicles in the area. If it was a friend of the owner driving the car he may not be a friend much longer when registered owner ( as the owner it is up to you to prove you were not driving the vehicle ) is threatened with loss of licence and huge fine.

yes i know its the UK and the speed limit is 70mph but in Germany on the autobahn its the norm. lets take the UK speed limit and law out the equation for a moment and then ask whats the harm.

if the speed limit was 100mph in the UK a large majority would all drive at 100mph up the speed limit to 200mph and if your car could do it then people would. its the law that makes it bad.

Problem is this is the UK and not Germany, around towns and junctions the German speed limit on autobahns drops as well. Other drivers are not expecting idiots to be doing those speeds in UK and can think they have more time to do stuff - when they don't. You can bet if you raised UK speed limit cars in the 'BMW lane' would always go 10 or 20 MPH more and think it was OK for the unwritten 10% + 2 rule...

You can be done for speeding on the Autobahn. Not sure how. Possibly for reckless driving?

Problem with doing 200mph on the UK motorway is that no one expects it. My van can do 70mph tops. If I pull out to overtake (rare!) then I don't really look for someone a mile back who might be coming through at 200mph. Maybe I should?

If you look at the sections of Autobahn that are derestricted, you'll find the reasons why;
Road surfaces are essentially flawless
Flat surface with very little Camber or Descents/Climbs
Good Visibility; little/no bends
Very few junctions
Wide roads

Doing speeds in a safe environment is fine, especially where people expect it and are looking out for other vehicles. On a UK motorway it's not safe doing that level of speed.

When working for Goodyear fitting F1 tyres in 1973, the other truck was stopped for speeding on an autobahn.
They were stopped from about 90mph by a helicopter!
It flew beside them, getting lower & lower pointing a gun at the driver & pointing downwards. The summons was about A3 size so the culprit circled the biggest number on the sheet, converted it to £££ & claimed that on his expenses. Happy Daze!

I might have a friend who hit 150mph (GPS, not speedo) on a UK motorway many years ago before the days of speed cameras hidden behind motorway signs.

At 150mph our motorways aren't close to flat, they are a mass of lumps and bumps that try to throw you off line. And, even the shallowest bends need full concentration because you're getting 4x the centripetal force that you get at 70mph.

OK, cars have improved a bit since then, but doing 200mph while holding a camera in one hand is crazy even if you are in an RS6 with all the electronic gizmos turned on.

Yup, if Germany is serious about its climate change low CO2 etc they would reduce speed limits and stop making cars that can do over 200.... Then again Germany has been building coal fired power stations up to recently -
