Cam covers after valve clearance check - RTV, Hylomar, Wellseal?
In a month or so I'll have 15K on my Gen3, so I'm planning to check the valve clearances.
My question is, when replacing the cam covers, what's the preferred sealant for the rubber half-moons? I have some high-temp black silicone RTV, and also Blue Hylomar. Should I also put a trace of sealant around the rubber cover gasket too? Thanks. |

On my 2003 SV650S, the valve cover gaskets stayed stuck to the cylinder heads. Just had to make sure the gasket mated properly with the covers when replacing.

Yep, if the gaskets are intact they shouldn't need any extra sealant.

Yes if your careful the gaskets should come off whole. I used a feeler gauge to go round unsticking it rather than just pull on the cover...
