Removing Engine/Replacing Gearbox
Hey SV'ers,
After being royally screwed over by a previous member on here when I brought his 'runs perfectly bike', Ive now had to start the motions to replace the gearbox, fun times as Im sure you all know. No so far Ive managed to remove everythign I need to remove to drop the engine out, and last night I started to drop it, but the rear cylinder appears to be getting stuck on the frame and I cant manouver it out!!! Does anyone else who ahs done this in the past have any ideas on the best way to remove said engine!??? Also any tips on a gear change would be much appreciated!!! Thanks in advance Tacy! |

Re: Removing Engine/Replacing Gearbox
Can you see what its stuck on? You might need to move it forward and down in the frame?

Re: Removing Engine/Replacing Gearbox
Yea, get some pictures on. Is it sort of hooking on at the head of the cylinder? A few people have had engines out on here, it shouldnt be too hard to drop it out

Re: Removing Engine/Replacing Gearbox
Looks like you have a little room on the top pic, maybe if you move some of the hoses out of the way? nearly there arnt you, just a few mm. Can you lift it up and over and forward?

Re: Removing Engine/Replacing Gearbox
I maybe able to, I can lift it up and down slightly and back on forward, but I think I really need to either lift the front cylinder right up so that levers the rear one down, or someone mentioned the possibility of 'twisting' the engine as it were!

Did mine a long time ago and can't remember, but did you remove all the thruster bolts from the frame?

Re: Removing Engine/Replacing Gearbox
That thing in your first pic, you undone the clamp bolt? You can slide that spacer back IIRC.
P.S Are you sure it is gearbox knackered? What are symptoms?
